Catch a Falling Star - 5 Minute Friday - "Catch"

"Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket, save it for a rainy day"
These are the words that sprang to mind as I viewed the prompt for 5MF.  While it is a catchy tune, I can’t say I agree with the message.
Falling stars are not so very common and if you were to catch one, I believe there would be purpose to  it. . . that it was never meant to be tucked away for later use, but to be enjoyed and spent in the moment.  Some people would view seeing a falling star as “good luck” and that wishes made on a falling star are magical, but I don’t believe in luck.
I believe in providence.  Provision from the hand of a good Father, who knows what we need and when we need it and has promised to be our provider.  I think of the Israelites who were instructed to gather manna and use it up that day . . . if they saved it,  it would no longer be usable.

What could be considered a falling star in your day . . . did you catch it  . . . and what will you do with it?

  3. Dear Andrea Dawn,

I've often thought about "storage". There are Scriptures that tell us to store up for hardships ahead (Joseph in Egypt, animals gathering up food for winter, ...), but there are also Scriptures that tell us not to worry and that He will take care of us daily (like the lilies).

Different cultures see this concept differently, too. Some are crisis-oriented and some are not. The crisis-oriented will prepare ahead to diminish the effects of a future disaster. There are some, however, who feel they invite disaster if they prepare ahead and only run when they see disaster is imminent.

Soooo, what does all this have to do with your falling star? Should I save it for a rainy day? I share with you one line from Erma Bombeck's "If I Had My Life to Live Over"

I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.

The whole writing can be found at http://www.bibleplus.org/stories_%26_humor.htm It's the second story down on the page that pops up. Anyway, I think you're right, Andrea Dawn, something as special as a falling star is given to bless at that precise moment and, now, when I see one, I will always see your sparkly, delicate dandelion in seed and realize I've just been blessed.

    Sooo beautiful,
    Dawn
